According to a post on the Waseca County Sheriff's Office Facebook page some residents may be without home phone service from CenturyLink and Verizon. The post states that a fiberoptic line may have been damaged or cut but CenturyLink officials had not located it yet. Any resident that is experiencing an emergency situation can "try calling and/or texting 911, or go to your nearest law enforcement agency" according to the post.

Currently there is no timetable for repairs in the area, due to phone officials not being able to locate the problem. Waseca and New Richland residents are affected by this outage. Affect residents may get a message when they dial that all lines are busy. 9-1-1 calls are being re-directed to Blue Earth County, as the Waseca County dispatch cannot receive 911 calls.

The FCC's website suggests that when calling 9-1-1 from a cellular device to:

  • Tell the emergency operator the location of the emergency right away.
  • Provide the emergency operator with your wireless phone number, so if the call gets disconnected, the emergency operator can call you back.
