Gail Donkers Elected to Soybean Council
Gail Donkers a soybean grower from Rice County was elected to the Minnesota Soybean Research and Promotion Council to represent District 8. Gail will replace Keith Schrader who retired after serving nine years on the council and one term as chairmen. Remember the Minnesota Soybean and Research and Promotion Council oversee the funds raised through the check-off.
Every time a farmer sells a bushel of beans they pay a small fee into the check-off. The funds can be used only for research, promotion and education. More than 28,000 soybean farmers in Minnesota elect council members to direct the investment in the check-off dollars. The Minnesota Department of Agriculture administers the election.
Gail Donkers has been very active in many organizations like 4-H, Minnesota Agriculture Rural Leadership, Minnesota Farmers Union, and the Minnesota Lamb &Wool Producers. "Advocating for agriculture has always been a high priority in my life," Donkers said. "By showing up and being the voice of Minnesota's soybean farmers, I hope to make a difference for our farm, as well as my neighbor's."
