Both games of the Schwan Cup Tournament in Blaine for the Owatonna girls' hockey team have gone to overtime. After losing a shootout to Cap City (WI) Wednesday, the Huskies grabbed a 3-2 overtime win over Henry-Sibley Thursday. Maylynn Prokopec scored the game-winner :47 into the extra session.

Trailing 1-0 entering the third period, Owatonna's Ezra Oien scored 20 seconds into the frame and Prokopec put the Huskies ahead 2-1 three minutes later. St. Paul/Henry-Sibley tied the game midway through the third. Oien and Prokopec each had an assist and Abby Vetsch had a pair of helpers, including on the game-winner. Owatonna concludes play at the Scwan Cup Friday. Wednesday's 'loss' to Cap City will count as a tie officially in the standings since the game ended with a tie in overtime.

Owatonna's boys' hockey team opened play at the Heritage Tournament in Duluth with a 5-3 over North St. Paul, the same team the Huskies whipped 9-3 December 22 on Dudley Otto Rink at the Four Seasons Centre. On Thursday, Dom Valento, who had a hat trick in the win over the Polars in Owatonna, had the game-winning goal and two assists.

Jacob Stoykovich, Andrew Munns, Zach Kubicek and Matt DeHaan also scored. OHS opened up a tight game with three straight goals to start the third period. Easton Sletten got the win in goal. The tournament continues through Saturday.

Owatonna girls' basketball dropped a 64-50 game to Tartan at the Buffalo Tournament. Lexi Mendenhall led OHS with 16 points. McKenna Schroht added ten. The Huskies play the host team Friday afternoon.

Huskies' boys' basketball lost 78-66 in the opening round of the Hibbing Tournament to the host club, according to the Daily Tribune. OHS led late in the first half, but the Bluejackets went on a run to gain a 33-29 halftime advantage. Hibbing extended the lead early in the second half, but Owatonna rallied to within 55-51 midway through the second.

Evan Dushek led the Huskies with 16 points. Steven Eckard had 12. The event continues through Saturday.
