Most parents try or (in my experience) force their kids to eat vegetables. They have so many nutrients and health benefits, but of course, kids could care less.

Perhaps if my parents took me to a Farmers' Market as a kid I would have been more inclined to sample new veggies because what kid doesn't love picking out something from a store (even if it IS something healthy).

Farmers' Markets are pretty darn cool, and they are often filled with the nicest vendors. Plus, nothing beats fresh food. Luckily, those in the Owatonna area don't have to wait much longer for homegrown items.

The Owatonna Farmers' Market starts Saturday, May 1st, and continues every Saturday through October at Central Park in downtown Owatonna. The market runs from 7 am to 3 pm, so you'll have plenty of time to get some goodies.

I'm looking forward to trying out some new hot sauces!

Even if you're not interested in the home-style food, there are plenty of handmade goods to go around.

There is something for everyone, and it's a great way to get outdoors.

If you are interested in being a vendor, you must register at Little Professor Book Store. Vendor spots are currently open to Steele County residents only, and obviously, you must make or grow the items you sell. There is no re-sale.

Do you think any of these iconic Minnesotan foods will make it to the Owatonna Farmers' Market? I'm thinking potentially not, but I sure wouldn't be mad if some of them did.
