Over 100,000 Minnesotans Haven’t Claimed Their Stimulus Check

About 116,000 Minnesotans have not claimed their $1,200 stimulus check from earlier this year. These checks were meant to help stimulate the economy but if there are people not claiming them that isn't good.

The people who need to claim their stimulus check received a letter in the mail from the IRS explaining that they need to claim their check. KARE 11 writes that the people who these letters were sent to "people who did not file a tax return for either 2018 or 2019". Usually, if someone didn't file a return that means "they have low incomes and were not required to file."

The deadline to claim your stimulus check has been extended to November 21st. That was announced last night (Monday, October 5th).

The state department of revenue spoke with KARE 11 and explained that even if you didn't receive a letter and still believe you are eligible for a stimulus check, you can still register.

You are likely eligible to receive a stimulus check if you:

• are a U.S. citizen or resident alien;
• have a work-eligible Social Security number; and
• can’t be claimed as a dependent on someone else’s federal income tax return.
