Northfield, Kasson-Mantorville, Dover-Eyota Section 1 Wrestling Champs

The Northfield Raiders achieved multiple bonus points while the Faribault Falcons did not in a 48-21 Section 1AAA Finals match at Rochester Mayo Civic Arena.

Each team had two Guillotine ranked wrestlers in their lineup.

Northfield sent a message from the outset with a Caden Staab at 106 pounds getting a fall in 1:40 over Chase Vargo.

The Raiders then added a major decision at 113 pounds when Keith Harner was victorious over Lucas Nelson.

Falcons 120 pound #5 ranked JT Hausen did not get the pin he wanted but he did score a tech fall in his match against Logan Williams.

126 pound Faribault #8 state ranked Bo Bokman had a tough match against Beau Murphy.  Bokman did get the win making the team score 10-8 at that point.

At 132 Northfield's Jackson Barron shut out Elliott Viland 8-0.

Raiders state ranked 138 pound Jake Messner was bumped up to 145 pounds.  Messner rated #4 in the Guillotine Class AAA.  The Falcons moved up Isaac Yetzer also but Messner was ahead before scoring a pin in 3:53.

The team score was Northfield 20 Faribault 15.

More bonus points for Northfield.

Aiden Tobin scored a win at 152 pounds over Chase Barron setting up an interesting match at 160 between Faribault's Cooper Leichtnam and Owen Murphy.

The Raiders  Murphy moved up from 152 pounds and he scored a major decision for more bonus points.  The score was Northfield 24 Faribault 15.

From there the Raiders rolled with Ryan Kuyper achieving a fall in 23 seconds against Isreal Lira at 170 pounds. Darrin Kuyper pinned Owen Schultz in 10 seconds at 182.

The Raideers Nickolas Mikula joined the pin parade with a 53 second finishing of Gabriel Shatskikh at 195 before the Falcons forfeited to state #8 ranked Mason Pagel at 220.  That made the score 48-15.

Faribault 285 pounder Matt Nelson scored a 1:22 fall over Joseph Schulz to end the match on a high note for the Falcons.

Our Malecha's Auto Body Faribault Crunch Time Wrestlers of the Match were Nelson, Tobin and Joe Laabs the seniors for the Falcons.

The Cashwise Foods and Pharmacy of Owatonna Delivery performance of the match for each team went to Caden Staab of Northfield for setting the tone of the match for his team and JT Hausen for delivering Faribault's first win at 126 pounds.

Faribault finished their season 17-12, runner-up in Section 1AAA.  They were the #3 seed in the tournament so they finished higher than their seed.

Northfield is 26-2, heading to the State Tournament.

Top seed Kasson-Mantorville rolled over Lake City 58-13 with 6 pins and a forfeit victory.  Meanwhile Zumbrota-Mazeppa dispatched Albert Lea Area 40-23 in the semifinals.

The Cougars had a 12-0 lead after three weights but the KoMets began rolling at 126 pounds and finished the match with 6 falls in their 51-16 Section Final victory.

A point was deducted from the K-M score for unsportsmanlike conduct.

When the Class AAA and Class AA matches were over the Class A title was tied at 30 heading to 285 pounds.

Wrestlers were watching and the entire Mayo Civic Center Arena was wrapped in excitement for the two big guys trying to send their team to the MSHSL State Wrestling Tournament.

We didn't have any weigh-in sheets but trust me the Chatfield wrestler was considerably larger than the Dover-Eyota wrestler.

It didn't matter because Jackson Duellman scored a 11-7 win over Caden Nolte to give Dover-Eyota, the #3 seed in Section 1A the title and a trip to state.

The Eagles downed #2 seed Goodhue in the semifinal match in Rochester 45-30.

Chatfield defeated Caledonia/Houston 44-21.

Section 1 individual wrestling is next weekend.

In Section 2 Class A Maple RIver/United South Central defeated Medford 42-22 in the Championship match to punch their ticket to state.

This is interesting.
