The Faribault Lakers and New Prague Orioles gave moms a treat today with a 13 inning marathon that ended with a 3-2 New Prague victory.  Faribault got very strong pitching performances from starter Matt Lane and Tyler Francis.  The two combined to allow 3 hits in the game while the Lakers tallied 7 hits.  Lane went the first 6 innings, giving up 1 hit, walking 3 and striking out 8 while giving up 2 runs, 1 earned.  Francis went the final 6 and 1/3 innings, giving up 2 hits, 1 earned run, walked 3, struck out 4 batters.

The Lakers struck first with a run in the first inning.  Joe Grote had a one out single followed by a Matt Lane single that scored Grote.  Lane went to second on the throw home and was stranded there.  The Orioles took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the second inning.

Faribault tied the game in the top of the 8th inning.  With two outs Matt Lane singled to center.  Dylan Valentyn followed with an RBI double.  Faribault had the bases loaded in the top of the 9th inning with two outs but couldn't score.

In the bottom of the 10th inning New Prague had a double to start the inning, with one out he advanced to third but Francis Coaxed a pop up and got a strike out to end the threat.

In the top of the 11th inning Mike Carpentier opened with a single but was retired on an inning ending double play following a strikeout.

The bottom of the 11th started with an Oriole reaching base on an error.  He was sacrificed to second by a bunt.  Francis got a strikeout and the inning ended on a ground out to third.

In the top of the 12th inning Francis opened with a single.  Dylan O'Neil laid down a bunt that resulted in an error and placed runners at first and second with no outs.  Following a pop out to first Lane was intentionally walked to load the bases.  The next batter struck out and the inning ended with a grounder resulting in a fielder's choice out.

In the bottom of the 13th a strikeout started the inning followed by back to back walks.  Jacob Mader singled to center scoring Eric Wagner giving the Orioles the win.

The line totals were:

Faribault             2 runs  7 hits  4 errors

New Prague       3 runs  3 hits  2 errors

Nathan Sprouls went the first 9 1/3 innings for New Prague allowing 2 runs on 5 hits with 14 strikeouts and 5 walks.  The 2016 Rosemount graduate threw 149 pitches, 99 for strikes.  2018 New Prague graduate Max Fierst entered the game in the 10th inning and got the win.  He allowed 2 hits in the final 3 2/3 innings with 2 walks and 6 strikeouts while throwing 39 pitches, 28 for strikes.

The Lakers go to Veseli Friday for a 8:00 p.m. game and play next Sunday at St. Patrick with a 2:00 p.m. start.  The Faribault schedule has them on the road for their first eight games this season.
