Maroon and gold or purple are colors normally associated with Minnesota, but did you know Minnesota is also one of the greenest states in the U.S. as well?

That's the word from the gang over at WalletHub. Just in time for Earth Day (which is Monday, April 22nd this year), they published a survey that lists the Greenest States for 2019-- and Minnesota finished in the top five.

To compile this year's list of most environmentally-friendly states, WalletHub says they looked at five key areas and ranked all 50 states accordingly. The survey said they looked at three dimensions: 1) Environmental Quality, 2) Eco-Friendly Behaviors and 3) Climate-Change Contributions.

And Minnesota ranked pretty high on the list-- coming in at #5 overall. Which isn't bad at all, right? But, Minnesota finished first in both soil quality and water quality, and we were ranked second in the always-popular category of 'percentage of recycled municipal solid waste.' (Rochester's Waste-To-Energy facility must have helped boost our ranking!)

In fact, when it comes to being green, only Connecticut, Oregon, New York and Vermont were rated higher than us here in the Land of 10,000 Lakes. Meanwhile, my home state of Wisconsin came in ranked at #11, while our neighbors to the south in Iowa were ranked at #32.
