The Minnesota Agriculture Water Quality Certification Program is a voluntary program organized by the Minnesota Department of Agriculture. Currently more that 600,000 acres in Minnesota have been certified. Brad Redlin manages the program for the Minnesota Department of Agriculture. It has been very successful so far because it is a cooperative effort between landowners, local SWCDs, the Minnesota Department of Agriculture and private business.

Brad was one of my guests on today's AM Minnesota Program. My other guest was Steve Paus District Manager at the Rice County SWCD. If a farmer is interested in the Minnesota Water Quality Certification Program you begin at your local SWCD. Then there are regional coordinators that work with the farmer and staff at the SWCD along with Brad at the Minnesota Department of Agriculture.

If a farm is certified a "fringe benefit' is that you will be deemed in compliance with any new Minnesota laws or regulations. In addition if you have any questions check with your local SWCD!
