Johnson and Meyers to Broadcast Cannon Falls Game
Cannon Falls legends Rod Johnson and Keith Meyers will be teaming up to broadcast the Cannon Falls Bombers season opening football game in Zumbrota Thursday night on KDHL, 920 AM. The game is also available on the KDHL app.
Johnson was the Farm Director at KDHL when I arrived here in 1987. He just concluded emceeing the Princess Kay of the Milky Way crowning last week at the Minnesota State Fair.
Johnson also was the Target Center public address announcer for the Minnesota Timberwolves for a couple decades. He is the public address announcer for the Bombers during their home games.
Meyers is well known around the state as one of the top pitchers in amateur baseball.
His brother Danny is the Head Coach for the Bombers football team so he should be able to give more insight than most into the thinking of the team during the game.
Last season Cannon Falls participated in the MSHSL State Football Tournament for the first time since,1996. Keith was the starting quarterback of that team.
In fact here's a bit of trivia for you. Meyers is one of only three quarterbacks to throw for over 500 yards in a Minnesota high school football game. He threw for 505 yards against Montgomery-Lonsdale in 1996. Meyers had 7 touchdowns in the game which is also in the state record book (third on the list) Bombers receivers Robby Hedeen and Matt Norstad are also in the high school record books with 4 touchdowns receiving in a game during the 1996 season.
Meyers is also in the state record books for the 1996 season with 3,071 passing yards (4th), 340 attempts (6th), 166 completions (10th), 33 touchdowns passing (6th).
Zumbrota-Mazeppa football Head Coach Darin Raasch told us on the Z-M Coaches Show Saturday courtesy of the News Record and Zumbro Shopper his team was looking forward to the challenge of hosting the Bombers.
This will definitely be a game of contrasting styles with Zumbrota-Mazeppa running the spread offense and Cannon Falls takes a more conservative approach. The Bombers love to run the football with just enough passing to keep the opponent defense honest.
Both teams love to fly to the football on defense.
Coverage begins 6:45 p.m. from the Cougar's Den at Zumbrota.
