Ice Storm Warning For Steele & Freeborn Counties
The National Weather Service has issued an ice storm warning for Steele, Freeborn, and Faribault counties until 6pm tonight.
The weather system that is pushing through the area will create, according to the National Weather Service, "significant icing." On top of the ice expected residents of Steele, Freeborn, and Faribault counties could also see up to an additional two inches of snow on top of the glazed roads.
Some impacts from the ice storm will be possible "hazardous" driving conditions along I-90 and I-35. Travel is not being advised during this ice storm warning. If you have to leave your home make sure you have packed a flashlight, food, water, a blanket, and other needed items in case you become stranded.
Power outages could also occur due to the ice storm and build up on power lines. It's important to never touch a downed line and to call your local utility provider to handle any downed power line.
North of Steele County there is a winter weather advisory for Rice, Waseca, and Goodhue Counties that is also in place through 6pm. the Winter weather advisory is primarily based around wet snow that could accumulate up to 2" creating difficult driving conditions.
