I'VE NEVER TRIED SAUERKRAUT

You might think it's weird, that being born and raised in Minnesota, that I've never let Sauerkraut touch my lips. I know it's something that people here crave....it's something they can't live without. It's seems that Minnesotans love Sauerkraut as much as they love mashed potatoes, green been casserole, mac and cheese and pizza.

There are a few things that have been hard for me to try because of the unpleasant smell. Lutefisk...I'm not sure I'll ever get to the point of trying this; mostly because I don't even think it's healthy for you.

Sauerkraut, on the other hand, I believe is pretty good for you; but the smell has kept me at bay for my entire life.

Funny how certain people can come into your life and you're all of a sudden willing to try things you never have before.  Darin is that person for my Sauerkraut tasting. So far, everything he has cooked for me has been fantastic; so great in fact, that I'm afraid to make him anything.

We went out to eat at Jack & Jim's Restaurant in Duelm yesterday for my parents 54th Wedding Anniversary. Darin and I decided to get the food bar, which consisted of ribs, chicken, turkey, potatoes, gravy...and yes...sauerkraut. I really didn't give it much thought.

Until, that is...we got back to the table. Darin of course had grabbed some sauerkraut, and held up a bite for me on a fork. For whatever reason, with HIM holding it out to me...I suddenly wasn't so afraid to try it.

Since he was kind enough to come with me to my family outing, I thought I could at least try it.

I was pleasantly surprised. It didn't taste anything like what I expected. I love cooked cabbage soup, and it sort of tasted like that, except saltier. I can see how people could get addicted to this; I'm just not there yet. However, I did like it enough to try it again soon.
