In an announcement sent out today, Shopko Optical stated that Faribault would be home to the chain's "13th Shopko Optical center in the Minneapolis area" and will be ready to start seeing customers beginning in October.

According to the press release, “We are so thrilled to be a part of the Faribault community,” said Russ Steinhorst, Shopko Optical CEO. “The new center will allow us to continue providing the well-renowned, patient-centric eye care that Shopko Optical is known for.”

Coming with the new business will be new jobs created in Faribault. Shopko Optical stated in the release that there will be "five to seven jobs" created with the opening.

In addition, Shopko Optical’s Kids in Focus program will work with Faribault’s local Lions Club to identify deserving children within the area to receive a comprehensive eye exam and pair of glasses at no charge from Shopko Optical. Those looking to participate can contact their local Lions Club.

The new location will be in the strip mall located at 300 Western Avenue is expected to open in October 2021.

Currently, according to the Shopko Optical website, there are stores located in Austin, Bloomington, Mankato, and Rochester that would be considered the closest to the Faribault-Owatonna area.
