Faribault Fire Chief Dustin Dienst stops by our KDHL Studios to discuss grass fires this morning on AM Minnesota at 9:30 a.m.  The conditions will be here very soon.  The National Weather Service is predicting temperatures in the 70's by Saturday.

In Texas, where I vacationed last week, they were experiencing some wildfires.  Brush fires, peat fires, forest fires.  They are all similar.  In 1937 U.S President Franklin D. Roosevelt initiated a nationwide fire prevention campaign, highlighting the role of human carelessness in forest fires.  Later posters of the program featured Uncle Sam, characters from the Disney movie Bambi, and the official mascot of the U.S. Forest Service, Smokey Bear.

We'll discuss what we can do to assist in the prevention of these fires in our area.  Keeping your cigarette butts in the vehicle when driving, off grass areas when walking is just a couple of ways to help prevent these fires.

Burning garbage in the rural area or brush piles are a source too.
