Goodhue Junior Earns First Varsity Fastpitch No Hitter

Emily Doerhoefer did not allow a hit today while striking out 9 in a 5-0 win over Kenyon-Wanamingo in Goodhue.  Four Wildcats seniors were honored before the game with each receiving a tote box filled with goodies.

The four seniors are Torrie Rehder, Ariana Thomforde, Hannah Gadient and Lexi Callstrom.  They recieved our Cashwise Foods and Pharmacy of Owatonna deliveries of the game for delivering some great leadership during this COVID season along with Doerhoefer for her efforts in the pitching circle.

Her counterpart Josie Flom had 8 strikeouts and 8 walks for the Knights while allowing just two hits to a very good hitting Wildcats team.  4 of the 5 runs that scored got on base by a walk.  The other run scored was on base due to the Knights only error in the game.

Goodhue took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first when Anika Schaefer clubbed a 2 run single.  Alexa Holst and Torrie Rehder scored on the play.  They reached on an error and walk.

The Wildcats could have put a bigger number on the board but Flom coaxed a popout and ended the inning with a strikeout to strand runners at second and third base.

The biggest threat for Kenyon-Wanamingo to score in the game came in the 4th inning.  Following a strikeout Sidney Majerus hit a ball that was dropped by the second baseman.  Hailey Lerfald hit the next pitch to third base and they tried to throw Majerus out at second but she slid in safely to put runners at first and second with one out.

A hit back to the pitcher and groundout ended the inning.  Kenyon-Wanamingo would only have one more baserunner the rest of the game.  In the top of the 5th inning #8 hitter Madi Greseth was walked.

Doerhoefer retired the final 8 batters faced to seal the no hit shutout.

Goodhue's only two hits were the Schaefer RBI single in the first inning and a Rehder 2 run single in the 4th inning.

Each team had just one error in the game.  Each pitcher seemed to get stronger as the game went on.  Flom retired the final 7 batters she faced with 4 strikeouts.

The Kenyon-Wanamingo Knights of the game courtesy of Held Bus Service Kenyon were Flom for throwing a two hitter, Lydia Schaefer for an excellent catch of a liner in the bottom of Goodhue's 6th inning and Sidney Majerus was on base two of the three times she stepped to the plate.

Kenyon-Wanamingo plays Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. against Cannon Falls and ends their season 4:30 p.m. Thursday when they host Glenville-Emmons/Alden-Conger.

Goodhue closes their regular season at Pine Island 5:00 p.m. Thursday.

The Wildcats will more than likely be the #2 seed in Section 4A which is double elimination all the way through.  That means they will host a game Monday at 4:30 p.m.  The Knights are in the same section and are probably going to play at Randolph 4:30 p.m. Memorial Day.  The Rockets will be the top seed.

All games will be played at the higher seed.

The seeds are supposed to come out Wednesday but I know some Section 4A coaches are not happy their Thursday games won't count even though they open their tournament action on Monday.
