The Faribault Sports Hall of Fame 30th Induction Ceremonies and Banquet is Friday at the American Legion Post 43 in Faribault.  President of Faribault Sports Incorporated Tom Hartman will stop by KDHL for AM Minnesota Wednesday to give us some details about the event.

Six individuals are receiving the honor this year.  These are not listed in any particular order.

  • Franz Boelter goes in after stellar coaching careers at Bethlehem Academy in volleyball and basketball.  I have said for many years Boelter would win coaching Tiddly Winks because he just knows how to coach.  Franz grew up in Windom, Mn. where he played football, basketball and baseball before going to the University of Minnesota where he played baseball for the Golden Gophers.  His first coaching job was at Medford High School.  He arrived at BA in 1984 where he coached boys basketball for 30 years and volleyball for 26 years.  Boelter's boys basketball teams captured 16 Conference titles.  His final coaching record was 613 wins, 290 losses.  The volleyball teams had 21 conference championships (19 in a row), a record 137 straight wins.  7 State Championships, 5 second place finishes at State, one third place finish.  Franz was State Coach of the Year five times.
  • Joey Clapp- Faribault High School Class of 2009 had a stellar high school career in baseball and swimming.  Then went to the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point and was a 3 time men's swimming MVP and Division 3 All-American.  Clapp earned 6 letters in high school.  He was named All-State 4 years and was the team MVP in 2009.  In baseball Clapp was a natural hitter playing varsity 2006 through 2009.  He was a member of the 400 Club in 2008 and his senior season hit .447 for the spring.  Clapp was named All-Conference.
  • Katie Burr DeRegnier- Faribault High School Class of 2006 excelled in swimming and track beginning in the 7th grade.  In swimming Katie qualified for state her 9th grade through senior seasons.  She was a six time Conference Champion.  Five time All-Conference selection and two time MVP.  In track and field Katie lettered five times and was captain her senior season.  Katie won the 2006 AAUW Award at Faribault High School. She was named Sports Woman of the Year at Wisconsin- Steven where she swam 4 years  and was a two time All-Conference performer.
  • Laura Slinger Mediger graduated from Bethlehem Academy in 2008.  She was All-Conference in volleyball and All-State in volleyball 3 years while the Cardinals won two State titles in 2006 and 2008.  They were runnerup in 2007.  Laura still holds the BA Shot Put record in Track and Field.  At the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire she played volleyball all four yearsand was given the Best Newcomer Award.  Laura was also named a second team All-American.
  • Ray Sanders graduated from Faribault High School in 1946 where he played football, basketball and baseball.  Ray coached all sports for a number of years and was a basketball official for a number of years also.  He umpired softball and baseball.  Ray led the American Legion Baseball program for 40 years.
  • Nate Rost graduated from Faribault High School in 2007 earning 10 letters. 3 in football, 3 in hockey and 4 in baseball.  He was named All-Conference in football two times, hockey 2 times and baseball 3 times.  Nate was All-State in baseball and football and was named one of the top 45 hockey players in the state.  He attended Wartburg College in Iowa where he pitched all four years.  He was named All-Conference his junior and senior years.  In recent years Nate has been a steady performer for the New Market Muskies in Amateur baseball.  In his career with New Market Nate has 39 complete games, 9 shutouts and one no-hitter.
