Faribault Home Damaged by Fire

Faribault Fire Chief Dustin Dienst says a dog and working smoke alarms alerted the occupant of a home on fire Thursday.   allowing the lone occupant to escape uninjured.  The call came in 11:09 a.m.

The Faribault Fire Department, Faribault Police Department, Rice County Sheriff's Office and North Memorial Ambulance were all dispatched to 625 10th Street Southwest.  When crews arrived they saw smoke coming from the home and the lone occupant told Faribault Police Officers there was nobody else in the home.

Chief Dienst says the fire started in a room in the basement and spread to the living room on the main level.  Fire and water damage was contained to those two rooms but the entire house suffered extensive smoke damage.  The basement floor also had extensive water damage.

Fire Chief Dienst said, "Thankfully, the occupant of the home was alerted by a dog in the home and smoke alarms and was able to escape uninjured."

The Faribault Fire and Police Departments began their investigation and the State Fire Marshal's Office was called in to assist.
