The Faribault Falcons girls hockey team defeated Totino-Grace 3-1 at the Faribault Ice Arena Saturday.  It was the first game back for senior goalie Mikayla Bohner in a couple of weeks and she made 21 saves to secure her 10th win of the season.

Bohner told KDHL she was, "very grateful for Ashley Rost and Serenity Knott for stepping up to play in net" in her absence so she could be ready for the game with the Eagles.  Bohner wanted to play in that game because she knew it would be a tough opponent.

Totino-Grace plays in the loaded Northwest Suburban Conference (Andover, Maple Grove).  The Eagles had some skilled players with speed.  Falcons Head Coach Mike Dietsch told KDHL following the game, "I wish we had played a few more teams like this previously. They were a disciplined team that played their systems well."

Dietsch was not pleased with his team's performance in the first period but said they improved in the second. The Falcons would have 28 shots total in the game and Totino-Grace 22.

Faribault senior Olivia Williamson came into the contest just 3 points behind Hannah Corneilusen of Warroad for the state scoring lead and 7 goals behind Corneilusen in second place in the state in that category.

Williamson scored the first goal of the game at 13:33 of the first period, assisted by classmate Emily Wilder.  It was Williamson's 24th goal of the season and Wilder's 8th assist.  Williamson lifted the puck perfectly over the right shoulder of the Eagles senior goalie Jordyn Vowels.  It would be the only goal scored in the period.  The Falcons had 8 shots on goal, Totino-Grace 4.

6:32 of the second period junior Rylie Starkson scored her 10th goal on an assist from eighth grader Grace McCoshen, her 10th assist.  At 8:51 Olivia Williamson notched her 25th goal and 43rd point by making Vowels commit to her left near the pipe and dumping the puck in the net while flying across the top of the crease.  Sister, freshman Bergen Williamson picked up her 7th assist on the goal.  It was 3-0.

The Eagles would score 10:13 of the period when senior Callie Else (3) scored assisted by junior Olivia Baldwin (2).

Vowels came into the game with a 5.60 goals against average and .804 save percentage but was clearly focused for the game.  She would finish with 25 saves.

Totino-Grace fell to 2-11, Faribault improved to 12-2 heading into the holiday break.

The Falcons have a makeup game at Austin next Friday beginning at 6:00 p.m.

The Eagles are at White Bear Lake Thursday in the Midwinter Border Battle Holiday Tournament.
