Faribault Fire Department to Observe 9/11

Faribault Fire Chief Dustin Dienst says his department will be conducting their annual 9/11 Memorial Service on Wednesday morning.  Do you remember where you were when you heard the news about the terror attack on the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York City?

The short program will begin at 7:46 a.m. (that is the time the first plane struck the tower) and will be over by 8:00 a.m.  Chief Dienst encourages first responders to wear their uniforms.

The September 11, 2001 attacks were a series of coordinated terrorist attacks by the Islamic terrorist group Al-Queda against the United States.

The attacks killed 2,996 people, injured over 6,000 others and caused approximately 10 billion dollars in infrastructure and property damage.

Other targets included The Pentagon, White House or U.S. Capitol.

A hijacked American Airlines plane hit one tower, a hijacked United Airlines jet hit the other tower.

A hijacked American Airlines plane hit the Pentagon.  A hijacked United Airlines flight attempt to strike the Capitol or White House was thwarted by it's crew.

343 firefighters and 72 law enforcement officers also lost their lives.  The deadliest incident for firefighters and law enforcement officers in U.S. history.

The U.S. response was the War on Terror and the nation has had a military presence in the Middle East ever since.
