The Rochester Century Panthers boys hockey team is one of the top teams in the Big 9 and had a hard time defeating Faribault Wednesday night at Graham Arena in Rochester.  The Panthers scored a 3-0 win while Falcons junior goalie Spencer Ell recorded 49 saves.  It was a penalty infested affair.

Faribault was 0 for 5 and Rochester Century 1 for 6 on the power play.  The Panthers outshot the Falcons 15-3 in the first period, 18-11 in the second and 19-15 in the third period.  At 9:37 of the second period Alex Anneke scored with assists to Aiden Swee and Eli McGuire to give the Panthers the only goal they would need.

14:58 into the second period Bennett Zmolek scored with assists to Swee and Anneke.

Rochester Century would get a power play goal 14:11 into the third period by Gavin Gunderson with assists to Connor Olson and Zmolek.

Total shots on goal were Rochester Century 52, Faribault 29.

In other Big 9 boys hockey Wednesday the Northfield Raiders fell to Albert Lea 5-4 at the Albert Lea City Arena.  Albert Lea had 28 shots and Northfield 26 shots on goal.  The Tigers set the tone with a power play goal by Blake Ulve  2:29 into the game assisted by Cole Wentzel.  The Raiders answered 24 seconds later when Colby Klotz scored an even strength goal with an assist to Carson VanZuilen.

Ulve scored his second goal 5:49 into the first period again on the power play assisted by Campbell Cichosz and Carson Goodell.  The Raiders got a power play goal from Kearic Cargrave unassisted to make the score 2-2.  The Tigers recaptured the lead at 15:32 when Colby Peterson got a goal with assists to Ulve and Logan Barr.

Albert Lea scored two even strength goals in the second period and they would need them. 3:27 Cichosz scored with assists by Cully Larson and Carson Goodell.  At 13:44 Cichosz scored again unassisted.

The Raiders scored two goals in the final period to make it interesting.  5:42 into the period Jacob Rezac scored unassisted and 6:29 Garrett Sawyer scored for Northfield assisted by Chase Murtha.

Albert Lea was 2 for 4 on the power play.  Northfield was 1 for 2.
