At the time of the murder, Chief Lange was responding to a domestic disturbance at Salinas’ home when he was beaten with a shovel, then shot twice with his own gun. Lange was killed less than 200 feet from where he lived with his wife, Susan, and their 12-year-old son.

According to a post by Dodge County Sheriff Scott Rose on the Dodge County Sheriff's Office Facebook page, Salinas will be eligible for another parole hearing in 3 years.

According to the Star Tribune, Lange worked in Claremont for 2½ years. His prior law enforcement experience included being a police officer in Owatonna from 1972-1979.

Salinas according to the Star Tribune will be moved from "the Rush City prison to a lower-security facility."
