The City of Faribault announced yesterday afternoon that a return to wearing masks was coming to residents who entered into city facility buildings, including workout facilities owned by the City of Faribault.

Beginning on December 6, Monday, every person who enters a city facility will be required to wear a mask, regardless of that person's vaccination status. The announcement also states that those individuals who are working out at a facility can take the mask off for exercise purposes.

The official announcement from the City of Faribault website states:

Effective Monday, Dec. 6, 2021, all persons in City facilities will be required to wear masks—this is regardless of vaccination status. Masks may be removed when individuals are exercising.

This decision has been implemented for a variety of reasons, including the “high” statewide positivity rate, as measured by the Department of Health, and due to the uncertainty of the new omicron variant.

We thank you for your understanding and compliance.

The announcement of mandatory masking in city buildings includes the Faribault Public Works, Faribault City Hall, Faribault Police Station, Faribault Fire Station, Washington Recreation Center, Faribault Community Center, and the Buckham Memorial Library.

The city also wants residents to know that masking will NOT be required "for rentals/private gathering, masks are not required when eating or drinking."
