Farmers have until December 11, 2020 to apply for the USDA Coronavirus Food Assistance Program 2 or CFAP 2. This program provides direct relief to farmers that did or still are facing market disruptions along with other costs related to the COVID-19 pandemic. CFAP 2 is similar to the first CFAP program even though it is a separate program. So, if you signed up for CFAP you still have to sign up for CFAP 2. You will not automatically be enrolled.

There are over 300 eligible commodities including row crops, livestock and specialty crops which means almost all farmers are eligible. All you have to do is call your local Farm Service Agency office at your USDA service center. When I called one of the staff filled out the application and emailed it to me. I just had to check to make sure the acres of crops and program yields were correct, sign it and email it back. It is a pretty simple process and a few days later the payment showed up in my bank account.

Actually CFAP 2 is much easier than the CFAP Program where there were dates and inventories of unpriced commodities needed. So, if you have not signed up for the CFAP 2 Program call your FSA office soon!
