Area League Playoffs Wrapping Up in Minnesota Amateur Baseball
The Montgomery Mallards will be the first opponent for the Faribault Lakers when the Region 3C Playoffs begin Sunday. Montgomery defeated Shakopee 7-0 Thursday night to complete their two game sweep and advance to the Region 3C Tournament.
The Mallards will be in Faribault 4:00 p.m. Sunday to open the region competition. The Prior Lake Mudcats also wrapped up their series with a 9-3 victory over Webster in Elko.
Two seeds are still to be determined for the Region 3C Tournament. Tonight #10 seed Union Hill will be the visitors but will play in their park tonight against St. Benedict at 8:00 p.m. #9 seed Vesli is at #8 seed Lonsdale at 7:30 tonight.
Region 3C opens Sunday. Prior Lake is at New Prague with first pitch 1:00 p.m.
#2 seed St. Patrick and #1 seed New Market won't know who they play until after tonight's results.
If Union Hill advances they would go to New Market for a 1:00 p.m. game. The winner of the Veseli at Lonsdale contest would be heading to St. Patrick. If St. Benedict wins they would go to St. Patrick and the Veseli versus Lonsdal winner would play at New Market.
In Twin Rivers League playoff games tonight #2 seed Wanamingo hosts #9 Waseca 7:30 p.m. at John Burch Park in Cannon Falls. Game two of their scheduled three game series will be in Waseca 7:00 p.m. Saturday. If a third game is necessary it will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday in Wanamingo.
The other opening games in the league playoffs are:
- #3 Austin hosts #8 Dodge County
- #4 Rochester Roadrunners entertain #7 Winona
- #6 Pine Island at #5 Owatonna
The 8-team Double Elimination Region 5C Tournament opens next weekend with top seed Stewartville-Racine already penciled into the bracket.
Region 6C Tournament opens this weekend at the higher seeds. Play-in games are Saturday evening. Cleveland is at Arlington and Fairfrax goes to Lake Crystal. Those games are 4:00 p.m.
The Arlington game winner plays at Waterville Sunday at 2:00 p.m. The Lake Crystal game winner goes to Jordan for a 6:00 p.m. game Sunday.
Region 5C and Region 6C Tournaments resume next weekend. Region 3C continues throughout the week. If Faribault wins Sunday they would play Tuesday and if they fall to Montgomery the Lakers would play on Wednesday.
All of this is of course weather permitting.
