A chance to dunk the new Owatonna High School principal and the Steele County sheriff, the giant Steele County Free Fair chair and a crazy hair contest are a few of the silly happenings during Owatonna's annual Crazy Days which continue through Saturday, July 27.

Thursday's Community Day gave people the chance to dunk new OHS principal Kory Kath and county sheriff Lon Thiele. It's not known whether students who successfully dropped Kath into the water will face detention. Anyone who dunked Thiele should watch their speedometer even more closely while on county roads.

Free watermelon and cantaloupe were being offered courtesy of Hat Chic Clothing Company. For a buck, kids could take a mini-train ride around the park. While not quite like the Union Pacific Big Boy that rumbled recently through town, the kids seemed to enjoy the ride.

A car show and the Owatonna Community Band performance highlighted Thursday night. Local businesses took many of their items outdoors to the streets of downtown, thankful that Mother Nature wasn't delivering anything too crazy.

The Owatonna Business Partnership sponsors Crazy Days. Saturday's schedule includes the Farmers Market from 7 am to noon, Owatonna Sings competition at 1 pm and historic walking tours. Retail stores will entice customers with crazy deals as well.

The Owatonna Area Chamber of Commerce reminds everyone that one more Downtown Thursday is coming up on August 1.
