The opioid crisis in Minnesota was one of the issues that was talked about at the Minnesota Farm Bureau's 100th Annual Convention in Bloomington last week. I was not even aware of the problem until Ruth Meirick Foundation Director with the Minnesota Farm Bureau began talking about it in the news. I recorded an interview about the opioid crisis with Ruth that will be on the first half of today's AM Minnesota Program.

Then the second part of today's AM Minnesota program will be an interview with Chris Johnson, MD. who spoke at the annual meeting. The title of his presentation, "The Opioid Crisis is No Accident, It Was Engineered."  Dr. Johnson is a nationally recognized expert on opioid use in the United States, how it became a problem, why it persists, and what individuals can do to help. He also poses questions about the healthcare system, costs of health care and potential harm to health care patients.
