At the Minnesota Sheriff's Association (MSA) annual Summer Conference at Cragun's Resort in Brainerd, five current Minnesota Sheriffs performed a live show, lasting two hours. The band, known as The Brassholes, formed at the MSA's Winter Conference in December, when they learned of each other's musical talents. Their debut concert was such a hit, they were asked to return to the Summer Conference and play again. Songs performed included both rock and country hits.

The Brassholes include the following, three of them located in Southern Minnesota:

  • Troy Dunn, Rice County Sheriff - Percussion and vocals
  • Pat Eliason, Cook County Sheriff - Lead guitar and vocals
  • Rick Fiedler, Wilkin County Sheriff - Rhythm guitar and vocals
  • Scott McNurlin, Goodhue County Sheriff - Drums
  • Scott Rose, Dodge County Sheriff - Bass

The Brassholes asked for a nominal, voluntary contribution from the attendees and managed to raise $2,502 from other sheriffs, spouses, and conference vendors. 100% of the proceeds will go to support Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) for Special Olympics.

"The Law Enforcement Torch Run® (LETR) is the largest grassroots fundraiser and public awareness vehicle for Special Olympics in the World. The Minnesota LETR is supported by the Minnesota Chiefs of Police Association and Minnesota Fraternal Order of Police."

They also auctioned off memorabilia, including guitar picks, wigs, bandanas, to increase the total raised by another $1,200.

Over the years the Torch Run has evolved to include different fundraisers like Plane Pulls, Polar Plunges, as well as Tip-A-Cops. Since LETR has begun, more than half a billion, yes BILLION, has been raised for Special Olympics.

Now, do you think we could get them to play at the Polar Plunge here next January?
