5 Fun Books that I Read to my Kids
Read Across America Day, promoted by the National Education Association, was observed on March 2. It got me thinking about the books I enjoyed reading to my kids.
Some nights I even stayed awake while lying with them in bed reading. They are now mostly grown up, so I don't get to read to them anymore. But we continue to keep some of our favorite books around the house. The Critter books were fun as you could make a game of looking for the spider hidden on each page. Just Me and My Dad tells a fun story of the things Critter can do with his dad.
March 2 is also the birthday of Theodor Seuss Geisel, who wrote books as Dr. Seuss. Considering that I talk for a living, the tongue-twisting dialog is priceless. On Beyond Zebra would probably blow up auto-correct. The comic series Calvin and Hobbes was always one of my favorites. I enjoyed reading a couple of pages of those books to my son to get him out of bed in the morning.
Shel Silverstein's The Giving Tree has a sad feel to it but tells an amazing relationship story. The big picture book What are You Grumpy About? is a light, quick read that should leave you anything but grumpy by the end. After all what's a better pick-me-up than some reading with the kids.
