This bridge in Inver Grove Heights is over 100 years old. Of course, this means it has quite the history! And an added benefit is that the bridge has great views of the Mississippi River. The bridge is called the Swing Bridge in Swing Bridge Park.

Only in Your State says that the Swing Bridge was first built in 1894. It was actually one of the only double-decker bridges on the Mississippi at the time. The top of the bridge was used by trains, the bottom was used by vehicles.

Unfortunately, after not quite 100 years the bridge stopped operating for all traffic, the railroad and the vehicles. Then 10 years later, in 2009, part of the bridge was demolished.

Just recently, in 2011, the bridge finally reopened but as a pedestrian bridge! So now we can take a stroll across the Swing Bridge and enjoy the views of the Mississippi River.
