Faribault Lakers Drop Back to Even Record
The Faribault Lakers did not have their full complement of players Monday night and fell 4-2 to the Rochester Roadrunners on a gorgeous night at Bell Field. There were no bugs and there was no wind. Rochester does not have their current roster on the Minnesota Baseball Association web page for them so unfortunately we can't give you specific player information for the roadrunners.
Egan Bonde threw well enough to win allowing 8 hits while going the distance in the game. Bonde threw 104 pitches, 69 strikes with 27 of 37 first pitch strikes. He struck out 7, walked 1 and hit 1 batter. The Roadrunners used three pitchers in the game with their starter going the first 7 innings and a different pitcher in each of the last two innings of the game.
Rochester scored a run in the fourth inning when a 1 out single on a 1-2 count was followed by a two out double on a 0-2 count to the #5 hitter. The Roadrunners added three runs in the fifth inning when the #8 batter jumped on the first pitch delivered to him with one out. Bonde struck out the #9 batter for the second out. Rochester proceeded to get a first pitch single from the the lead batter in the order, a 1-2 count double knocked in two runs before the #3 batter cracked a 0-1 count pitch for a double to knock in another run.
Faribault scored their two runs in the 6th inning. Dylan O'Neil led the inning with a single. Joe Grote followed with a single. Following a fly out Dylan Valentyn hit a slow roller to short for what I ruled to be a hit and an error in my scorebook. My eyes thought Valentyn would have been safe anyway. He and the first baseman collided and the first baseman did not catch the ball scoring O'Neil and getting Grote to third base. Following a pop out to the catcher for the second out the Lakers had Valentyn take off from first to get caught in a rundown and Grote scored the run before he was tagged out to make the score 4-2.
The Lakers got a Roadrunner error to start the 7th inning to get Mike Carpentier on base. That was followed by a fielder's choice, fly out and another fielder's choice to end that inning. Faribault went up and down in order in the 8th and 9th innings against two different pitchers.
With the loss the Lakers are 9-9 and travel to Dundas for a 7:30 p.m. game Wednesday before hosting New Prague Friday at 7:30 p.m.
Rochester was coming off a 4-1 loss to Wanamingo Saturday in Wanamingo. Jacks pitcher Sam Roosen scattered 5 hits while going the distance for Wanamingo. Sam and his brother Gavin each had a pair of hits along with Andrew Anfinson with the Jacks collecting 12 hits in the game.
