The Tri-City United Titans had two wrestlers win Section 2 Class AA crowns Saturday and one finished second to advance to the Minnesota State Wrestling Tournament.

The tournament opens with team competition Thursday at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.

The Waterville-Elysian-Morristown/Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton Grizzlies advanced one champion to state also.

Wrestlers qualifying from Tri-City United were:

  • 106 champion: Nick Johnson, sophomore
  • 170 champion: Mason Rutt, senior (also notched his 175th career win)
  • 195 second place: Jordan Simonette, senior

The lone qualifier for the Grizzlies was Will Storch with the 195 pound section championship. He's a junior.

Junior 138-pound Justin Kopet of Tri-City United picked up his 100th career win during sections and Mankato West freshman Charlie Pickell also achieved career win 100.
