According to the calender, today is the first day of spring! Coming off of another especially cold winter, Minnesotans, and people throughout the world, are jumping for joy! Officially this means that we have roughly the same amount of day and night. The weather is warm, people are unpacking their summer apparel and putting away the winter parkas and layers, but is it too soon?

Before you get upset, I'm on your side! I want warmer days and sunshine as well! But before we pull the shorts out, lets remember that we've had snow storms well into April before.

Sure it's nice now, but, the forecast includes the word "snow" for Sunday, with temperatures sliding backward. Earlier in the week, I spoke with meteorologist Laura Lockwood with the Weathereye Weather Center. She said that Minnesota is listed as being in abnormally dry conditions, which could lead to drought and increased wildfires.

Additionally, it could not be more disappointing to get your hopes up and be prepared for backyard grill outs, outdoor concerts and flip flops, only to have to dig the winter boots back out. I'll take the warmer days while they last, but I am not ready to pronounce spring as arrived just yet. Instead, I'll be celebrating more hours of daylight!
