Remembering My Dad On Father’s Day 2014

MY DAD WAS NOT A SUPERMAN AND THAT’S WHY HE IS MY HERO

HE TAUGHT ME HOW TO BE A MAN FROM THE TIME I WAS ZERO

OH WE CERTAINLY HAD OUR ARGUMENTS AND I SAID THINGS I STILL REGRET

HE DID GET VERY ANGRY WITH ME AT TIMES, AND YET

EVEN IN THOSE MOMENTS OF ANGER HE NEVER USED GOD’S NAME IN VAIN

HE DIDN’T JUST TALK CHRISTIAN HE LIVED IT OVER AND OVER AGAIN

THIS RHYME COULD BE YEARS LONG OF EXAMPLES OF THE HELP DAD GAVE

A FREE ROOM IN THE MOTEL, A HOT MEAL, HERE’S A RAZOR FOR A SHAVE

THERE WERE TIMES A STRANGER WOULD HAVE DINNER IN OUR HOUSE

DAD WOULD INVITE THEM IN WITH THE APPROVAL OF HIS LOVING SPOUSE

NO WORDS WERE EXPRESSED BY DAD AT THESE TIMES, NONE WERE NEEDED

ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS IS THE LESSON I HEEDED

HE WAS ALWAYS IN HIS BIBLE SEARCHING FOR NUGGETS OF WISDOM

HE WOULD ASK MY THOUGHTS OF IT’S TEACHINGS ABOUT THE KINGDOM

IT WAS DAD’S WAY OF CONNECTING WITH HIS YOUNGEST SON

I WENT TO BIBLE STUDIES WITH HIM AND IT WAS FUN

I WAS PROBABLY 15 OR SO AND THESE GUYS OVER FIFTY

WOULD LET ME SHARE MY THOUGHTS ABOUT VERSES, THAT WAS NIFTY

I ACTUALLY THINK THEY ENJOYED A YOUNGER PERSON’S PERSPECTIVE

THERE REALLY IS NO RIGHT OR WRONG  IN SHARING GOD’S DIRECTIVE

FOR A BIBLE VERSE CAN SPEAK TO ME DIFFERENTLY THAN SOMEONE ELSE

THE SAME VERSE CAN HAVE A NEW IMPACT AFTER ANSWERING MORE OF LIFE’S BELLS

MY DAD PROBABLY DIDN’T GO TOO MANY DAYS WITHOUT QUOTING THE GOOD BOOK

WHEN SOMETHING TROUBLED HIM THAT’S WHERE HE WOULD LOOK

ANOTHER LIFE LESSON FOR HIS KIDS WITHOUT SAYING A THING

WE WOULD SEE HIM READING AND SOMETIMES HE WOULD SING

JUST BURST INTO A HYMN RIGHT OUT OF THE BLUE

OH DAD, I WISH I WERE MORE LIKE YOU

FOR I CAN’T SAY THAT I DON’T EVER USE THE LORD’S NAME IN VAIN

AND I HAVEN’T ALWAYS TURNED TO THE GOOD BOOK WHEN IN PAIN

BUT NOW WHEN I DO READ THE BIBLE I HEAR YOUR VOICE AND THAT’S COOL

THANKS DAD FOR SHOWING IN YOUR ACTIONS,  GOD’S LOVE POOL

WE ALL NEED TO JUST JUMP IN AND SPLASH FOR AWHILE

LIFE DOESN’T HAVE TO BE DIFFICULT, JUST LEAN ON HIM AND SMILE

NOW FOR SOME REASON WHEN I SEE THE MOON IN THE SKY AT NIGHT

I THINK OF MY EARTHLY DAD WITH MY HEAVENLY FATHER AND THAT’S OUTTA

SIGHT.
