Gordy Kosfeld

Gordy Kosfeld was born in the turkey capital of the world Worthington, Mn. Which explains a lot about our News and Sports Director. After graduating from Spring Valley High School in 1977 Gordy attended Brown Institute in Minneapolis, Mn. To begin his radio dream. After jobs in Desoto, Mo.,Ottumwa, Ia., North Platte, Ne. And Des Moines, Ia. He arrived at KDHL June1, 1987 as the News and Program Director. After Ingstad Broadcasting purchased KDHL/KQCL Gordy was the News Director exclusively. From 1997 to 1999 he left news and joined the Sales Department. Upon Gordy's return to News Director in 1999 he continued some sales work with an emphasis on sports marketing. In 2002 Gordy took over Sports Director duties. He's hosted the A.M. Minnesota public affairs program since 1988. The Associated Press honored Gordy with multiple awards in Nebraska in 1985 and 1986. Including best small market newscast and best documentary both years. His documentary on the 10th anniversary of the exit of The Vietnam war was selected best documentary regardless of market size. In Faribault Gordy's work has been recognized with Minnesota News Network awards. In 2001 he was honored with the Minnesota Emergency Management Directors Outstanding media radio award for work during a tornado that hit the Nortfield area. In 2009 and 2011 Gordy was honored by the Region one athletic directors for coverage of the region. He has also been the voice of the Carleton Knights for Over a decade. In 2001 he was named Grand Marshall of the Kenyon Carriage and Cutter Parade and in 2004 received Kenyon's key to the city award for work promoting the community during the Rose Fest celebration. Gordy was top walker for the March of Dimes Walk for Babies in 1990, 1991 and 1992. Has been Co-Chair of the Rice County Relay for Life American Cancer Society event for over a decade and for many years has helped with meal prep work for the community Thanksgiving dinner in Faribault. He was Faribault United Way Co-Fundraising Chair In 2009. Gordy has also been involved at Christ Lutheran Church serving as Council President.. He's been seen throughout the region announcing the Faribault Heritage Festival Parade since 1988 and the Dam Days parade in Morristown, Kolacky Days parade in Montgomery, Lonsdale Community Days parade, Dennison Days parade and Rose Fest parade in Kenyon. Has emceed the Rice County Fair Queen Coronation and Senior recognition program at the fair and Faribault Memorial Day Program at Central Park. In his spare time Gordy enjoys riding bike and going on international trips learning more about this planet. He also dabbles in poetry and shares some of his poems with KDHL listeners.

Rice County Fair 2014 A Huge Success

Official attendance figures from the Rice County Fair will probably be revealed this week.  Regardless, the 2014 event saw some great changes.  I talked to a number of young mothers in the new Kiddieland area on the east end of the Fairgrounds and they loved moving the kiddie rides to an area away from the rest of the carnival and making it smoke free

New Gillen Building Dedicated at Rice County Fair

The new open class exhibit building officially became Gillen Hall after a ribbon cutting dedication on the opening night of the Rice County Fair in Faribault Tuesday night.  Fair Board Executive Secretary John Dvorak told a good crowd on hand a 50 thousand dollar legacy grant from the state was matched by the county and then County Commissioner Jake Gillen told him he and his wife wanted to know if a 25 thousand dollar donation would allow them to place their name on the building

2014 Rice County Fair Queen Crowned

The 2014 Rice County Fair Queen was crowned during a pageant Tuesday on the Bruce Sellner Memorial Midway Stage.  18 year old Carrie Conrad is the daughter of Joe and Kathy Conrad of Faribault.  The 2014 Faribault High School graduate was valedictorian of her class and will study accounting at the University of Minnesota's Carlson School of Management

Rice County Fair Queen Contestants on AM Minnesota 7-15-2014
