Earlier this week it was announced that the World Pork Expo on the Iowa State Fairgrounds in De Moines was canceled for the second year in a row. Last year it was because of the African Swine Fever outbreak that was spreading to many countries. African Swine Fever is not in the United States but there are visitors from more than 40 countries that attend World Pork Expo in Iowa. There were concerns foreign visitors could spread African Swine Fever to the United States.

This year the World Pork Expo was canceled because of the COVID-19 Pandemic. Last year the World Pork Expo was canceled because of concerns about pig health, this year it was a concern about people's health! The show was organized by the National Pork Producers Council. The world Pork Expo is held early in June. It sure does not look like things will not be back to normal by then. It's another disappointment but I guess it was the right decision to cancel. I guess there is always next year.
