One of my favorite productions at the Guthrie is their annual production of Charles Dickens' 'A Christmas Carol'. This year they will be putting a little twist on their production.

Actress Charity Jones who has been in many other Guthrie Productions, will play Scrooge in performances on Nov. 26 at 7 p.m., Nov. 30 at 10:30 a.m., Dec. 6 at 7:30 p.m. and Dec. 13. According to the Guthrie release she will be playing Scrooge as a male character.

At other performances she will be playing the part of Old Joe. Playing scrooge, the rest of the time will be another Guthrie veteran Nathaniel Fuller, who has played Scrooge in previous seasons, and has also filled the roles of Jacob Marley and the Ghosts of Christmas Past and Christmas Yet to Come.

The Guthrie press associate Marita Albinson says women have played men and vice versa in other shows. And it's a common move in their Shakespeare productions.

There will not be any changes to the script or story to allow for this change.  'A Christmas Carol' runs Nov. 14-Dec.30.
