Rochester, MN  (KROC AM News) - It took more than 30 years, but Rochester police finally got their man.

A man who was charged in 1986 with sexually abusing a young girl finally made his appearance in Olmsted County Court last month.

Two counts of 1st-degree criminal sexual conduct were filed against Stephen Bratrud on May 1, 1986. He was accused of abusing the girl over a period of 10 years, beginning when she was about 5-years-old.

Bratrud fled before he could be located.

Olmsted County Attorney Mark Ostrem says it’s believed Bratrud ended up in Bolivia where he apparently lived until a recent visit to the U.S. Ostrem says the Olmsted County warrant was still active and Bratrud was taken into custody.

Local authorities picked him up in Texas in April 1st and brought him to Rochester. Bratrud’s bail was set at $400,000. He remains in jail and is scheduled for an omnibus hearing next month.
