Walz Visits Floyd Memorial, Writes Message At Site

Minneapolis ( KROC AM News) - It was an unannounced visit Wednesday morning when Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz stopped at the site in Minneapolis that has become a memorial to George Floyd.

The site is where Floyd was taken into police custody on Memorial Day and became unresponsive while an officer kept his knee on the man’s neck even as he repeatedly said he could not breath. He later died,

Joining the governor at the site were First Lady Gwen Walz and Lt. Governor Peggy Flanagan.The three said a brief, silent prayer.

KSTP-TV reports the governor did what hundreds of others have done at the site - left a message in chalk on the street His message? "Justice now."

KSTP reports Walz told its reporter:

“It’s very personal. We wanted to try and get down early — I will say that because I very much worry about white politicians appropriating black pain, and that’s certainly not it.”

Walz told ABC News “ he's worried about white politicians appropriating black pain, and said it's unfortunate he's become friends with mothers because their sons have been killed.”
