The Waterville-Elysian-Morristown Buccaneers scored a 6-5 walk off win over the Kenyon-Wanamingo Knights today in a thrilling high school baseball game.

With two outs Senior Colten Henry softly hit a 1-2 count changeup into left field scoring classmate Ethan Bartelt in the dramatic bottom of the 7th inning.

Speaking of dramatics. In the top of the 7th with two outs Knights senior Owen Hilke crushed a home run to tie the game and send it into the bottom of the 7th inning.

Bartelt started the game with a triple and scored on a groundout in the first inning.  The Buccaneers had a four run third inning thanks in large part to 3 Kenyon-Wanamingo errors.  After 3 innings the score was Waterville-Elysian-Morristown 5  K-W 0.

Bartelt pitched for W-E-M and junior Trevor Steberg for the Knights.  Both pitchers threw 90 pitches in 7 innings.  Bartelt had 64 strikes.  3 strikeouts, 1 walk, 8 hits allowed.

Steberg finished with 63 strikes, 5 strikeouts, 1 walk, 7 hits allowed.

The Knights scratched out a run in the top of the 4th inning and probably feel like they should have had more runs scored.  Gavin Sommer walked to start the inning.  There were back to back singles by Owen Hilke and Luke Berg.  Berg scored Sommer.

Bray Olson singled to load the bases with no outs but the Knights would score no more that inning.  Following a strikeout Hilke was thrown out on a swinging bunt by Alec Johnson.  A popout ended the inning.

Kenyon-Wanamingo's Trevor Steberg started the fifth inning with a single.  Tyler Craig singled.  Gavin Sommer hit a towering fly ball the centerfielder appeared to make a nice running catch on but he dropped the ball.   Steberg scored.  Craig scored on a wild pitch.  Sommer scored on a sacrifice fly by Berg and suddenly the Buccaneers lead was 5-4.

That set up the dramatic 7th inning for both teams.

Waterville-Elysian-Morristown is now 5-8 on the season.  Kenyon-Wanamingo 7-6.

It was a terrific high school baseball game to broadcast.
