All farmers that raise corn or soybeans and payed into the check-off should have received ballets in the mail from the Minnesota Department of Agriculture. Both the Minnesota Corn Research and Promotion Council and Minnesota Soybean Research and Promotion Council are holding elections to their Board of Directors.

The Boards consisting of corn and soybean farmers elected by corn and soybean farmers oversee how the check-off funds are invested. When farmers sell corn and soybeans they are required by law to pay into the check-off. Those funds can only be invested in research, education and promotion. Quite simply, farmers that pay into the check-off decide how the funds are spent.

So, it is important that corn and soybean farmers vote in the council elections. If you raise corn and soybeans and did not receive a ballot contact the Minnesota Department of Agriculture. Plus, fill out the ballet and be sure to sign the form or the ballet will not be counted. The ballots must be postmarked by April 6, 2020.
