If you are a fan of the Northern Lights, or simply the wonder of outer space with the billions of stars that shine in the night sky, then you might want to check out what the Superior National Forest posted about on Friday. A nature center located near the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wildnerness shares a time-lapse each day of the following night sky, and most of the videos are AMAZING.

The Superior National Forest's post states:

Even if you can’t join us for the night skywalk in Cook County, you can join us virtually! Be dazzled by this display of northern lights or visit the Chik-Wauk AllSky Camera page and website for real-time views of the night sky on the edge of the BWCAW. I know I’ll be bookmarking this dark sky webcam for later

The featured video shows the Northern Lights glowing as the night sky rotates above. Of course, being located near the BWCAW means that you won't have lights from nearby towns shining up into the night sky, which allows you to see more stars, and other night happenings, like shooting stars and satellites cruising across the magical backdrop of spinning stars and black velvet sky.

The camera that takes the timelapse photos is called the "AllSky Camera" and according to the Chik-Wauk Museum and Nature Center's Facebook page, which posts the videos, "is a partnership between the Marshall W. Alworth Planetarium, UMD Department of Physics and Astronomy, Chik-Wauk Museum and Nature Center, and the Gunflint Trail Historical Society."

This video from December 7th, really shows just how amazing the night sky is up in Northern Minnesota.

A big H/T to the U.S. Forest Service - Superior National Forest page for the idea, and for letting others know about this webcam/timelapse.
