The USDA's Farm Storage Facility Loan program can be used to add propane storage for grain dryers on farms. Low interest financing is available to add liquefied petroleum storage tanks that fuels grain dryer equipment. New or used equipment quality for an unsecured loan of $50,000. Loans exceeding $100,000 require additional security.

I think a lot of grain farmers would have benefited from having more or larger propane storage tanks on their farms last fall. I am quite certain the Coops and privately owned propane suppliers would have benefited from farmers having more propane storage. I have never heard of a propane shortage or "propane allocation" during the summer fill programs.

If you would like more information on the USDA's Facilities Loan Program contact your local Farm Service Agency office. Do not be surprised though if the staff at the Farm Service Agency are a little busy. They are trying to get all farmers signed up for the new Farm Bill.
