Three weeks after someone broke the arm of the Paul Bunyan statue in Bemidji, the folk legend and his companion Babe the Blue Ox are both looking much better!

On May 3, Mayor of Bemidji Jorge Price shared a post on Facebook revealing that the city's iconic Paul Bunyan statue had "suffered a major separation in his right arm."

While the cause of the break was unknown at the time of posting, Bemidji Police released a video a couple days later revealing the source of the damage. Footage from a security camera at the plaza shows a group of people sometime in the night appearing to climb and hang from the Paul Bunyan statue. One of the individuals can clearly be seen hanging from Bunyan's arm when it breaks; the perpetrator falls to the ground before joining the rest of the group walking away from the site.

Over the past week, Visit Bemidji -- the official tourist information account for Bemidji -- has been sharing updates on the restoration of Bunyan and Babe. On Monday, a large crane was brought in to repair Bunyan's broken arm.

Additionally, both Bunyan and Babe have gotten a fresh coat of paint.

Mayor Jorge Price says he hopes the project will be completed and the iconic duo will be looking better than ever by Memorial Day Weekend. As of writing, no names or updates have been released as far as the culprits responsible for Paul's broken arm.
