An afternoon snowmobile crash Sunday has left a man from Le Sueur and a female passenger dead in Scott County. The crash happened in Blakely Township. 

According to a press release from the Scott County Sheriff's Office, yesterday at approximately 4:27 p.m., Scott County Dispatch Center advised deputies to respond to the intersection of 280th Street West and Lehnert Lane in Blakeley Township for a snowmobile crash with injuries.

The initial investigation shows that a black Ski-Doo snowmobile with two riders was traveling eastbound on a marked trail in the north road right-of-way on 280th Street West near Lehnert Lane and had collided with a power pole.

The 42-year old male driver of the snowmobile from Le Sueur suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead on-scene. The 33-year old female passenger also sustained injuries and was pronounced dead after being transported by ambulance.

It is unknown at this time if the driver of the snowmobile was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

The Scott County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Minnesota State Patrol, Minnesota DNR, Belle Plaine Fire, Belle Plaine Police Department, New Prague Police Department, and Ridges Ambulance Services.  The Scott County Sheriff’s Office, along with the Minnesota State Patrol is investigating.
