Toby Keith makes no secret of his avid support for the military, and he turned to social media to pay tribute to our fighting forces for Christmas.

The patriotic singer posted the photo above to Instagram on Saturday (Dec. 23), showing him dressed in a military jacket customized with his last name, standing in front of an American flag.

He's taken off his ball cap and holding it over his heart as if he's witnessing a performance of the national anthem, and he accompanies the picture with the caption, "We'll always stand up and salute."

The superstar's post touched off a slew of comments from fans who heartily agree with him, with one writing, "So we can sleep in peace at night when we lay down our heads...," while another chimed in, "You are so right. Please Lord be with all our service men and women and [their] families. Bring them home safe. Merry Christmas to you all and Thank you all for your service. Thanks Toby for sharing."

2017 has been a year in which the debate over whether or not to stand for the national anthem has been a hot-button topic, after a number of NFL players began taking a knee during the anthem in protest of social injustice. Former Steel Magnolia singer Meghan Linsey showed solidarity with those players when she took a knee after singing the anthem at a Tennessee Titans game, while Neal McCoy — who says the Pledge of Allegiance every single day — stood on the other side of the issue with the release of a new song titled "Take a Knee ... My Ass."
