I’m so excited for the Minnesota Twins this year!  We've got our tickets for a few games but have learned that taking a family to the game can get spendy.  I’ve figured out a few tips to help save some cash at Target Field.

Free Swag: I like to walk through the gift shops throughout the ballpark – just to see what all the cool kids are wearing. This mom can’t fork over that much for a shirt in Target Field though.

  • Find a game that has a promo item that is given away that you’d like, get there early, and you will get some free stuff! T-shirts, hoodies, hats, back to school items…the list is huge and you can find it on their website here.
  • Hang out by Fox Sports North area (by the flags). This is where most of the kids end up on camera for the fun games that give out free stuff to winners.
  • Free might be an overstatement here but there are a few food items where you can keep the container that can serve as swag.  We have several baseball hats from nachos and ice cream somewhere hidden in the kids' domain that I call "their room".

Tasty Food: Yes, you can enjoy the classic brat and beer at Target Field, or the hat of nachos (where you can keep the hat!), but there are a few ways to save a few bucks on food during the game.

  • Kids meals on Sundays are half price, just $4
  • Dollar Dogs on Wednesday! According to daytripper28.com, you can get a hot dog for only $1 at the Hennepin Grille and Taste of Twins Territory concession stands. There is a limit of 2 and they only have 20,000 of these available each game (which seems like a lot of hot dogs!).
  • Bring your own food. Yes…you actually can do this and I do every single game. My boys always want peanuts with the shell and they are amazingly expensive at the park. I doubt the peanuts at Cub Foods or Hy-Vee are much different, so I buy some there before the game. We usually bring chips, fruit and sometimes stop at Subway or another fast food place before the park and just bring that in with us.

The Minnesota Twins permit guests to bring food into Target Field as long as items are consumed in the general seating areas. Outside food cannot be brought into any restaurant, club lounge or suite. Food containers must be soft-sided and fit under a guest's seat. Food that could be thrown as a projectile should be sliced or sectioned (i.e. apples). Additionally, any food purchased from the concession areas on Target Plaza is allowed into Target Field. - Minnesota Twins website

Drinks: If you are wanting to drink something alcoholic at the stadium and want to save money, I can’t help you out there. But, here are a few ways to keep from dying of thirst and ending up completely broke:

  • Bring your own water! You are allowed to bring a sealed, bottled-water of 32 oz or less into Target Field. Anything flavored or pop – nope.
  • Bring your own container! There are several water fountains throughout Target Field. If you bring your own empty, plastic sport-type water bottle, you can have free water.
