We are a day away from the most romantic day of the year. Many folks will get flowers, chocolates, and candies for the ones they love. But many singles and couples will drink wine on Valentine's Day. A website called The Darling Kitchen decided to look at Google Trends for the most searched "Valentine's Day Wines" in each state since February 1st. They put together a map of the most popular wines in each state based on the searches that occurred during that time frame. Below you can see the map that The Darling Kitchen put together. But, let's go ahead and take a look at Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Iowa.

Kicking things off... let's look at Minnesota. According to this map, the most popular wine is Merlot. I'm no wine experts, but I know that Merlot pair well with meats such as chicken and some steaks. This must mean that many Minnesotans are planning on having nice chicken or steak dinners on Valentine's day.

Moving onto the dairy state of Wisconsin. This map shows that the most popular search for wine is Riesling. I don't know much about Rieslings so I Googled what they pair nicely with. The Spruce Eats says they pair nicely with Chinese food, Cajun, Tex-Mex, Seafood and Pork. It looks like folks in Wisconsin will be having cultural cuisine for Valentine's Day.

Finally, let's look at Iowa. The map says that the most search Valentine's Day wine is Pito Grigio. My mom loves a good Pito Grigio. She usually will pair it with a seafood dish, pasta, or seafood pasta. If I had to guess there is going to be a lot of pasta consumed in Iowa on Friday.

Looking at the country overall the breakdown goes as follows:

  • Merlot - 16 States
  • Pinto Grigio - 14 States
  • Riesling - 14 States
  • Cabernet Sauvignon - 2 States
  • Pinot Noir - 2 States
  • Syrah - 1 State
  • Chardonnay - 1 State
