The Black Beach on the North Shore is the Only of its Kind in Minnesota
The Black Beach is on the North Shore of Lake Superior in Silver Bay, MN. It's known for its black sand and it's the only beach of its kind in Minnesota.
While the black sand looks really cool, unfortunately, it's not natural. Only in Your State writes, "It's the result of taconite - dumped for years into the water by mining companies - washing ashore with the waves. The tiny pieces of this mineral have mixed with the sand" and that's what makes the black sand.
It's not a super big beach, but a very cool beach to see either way. You could bring a picnic, hang out on the beach, if Lake Superior is warm enough you could go for a swim, there's lots of things you could do here!
