Minnesota’s Oldest Town Was Established Back in 1830
Back in 1826 the town of Wabasha, MN was first populated. They were officially established in 1830 and platted in 1854. The established date of 1830 makes Wabasha the oldest town in Minnesota.
Wabasha was the place to be back in the day because it's right on the Mississippi River and on the border of Wisconsin. Only in Your State writes, "Being that the river was such a vital transportation link, Wabasha quickly became an important town in the region. It was officially recognized in the Prairie du Chien Treaty in 1930."
Today, Wabasha is a cute town with some awesome festivals and over 50 buildings on the National Register of Historic Places! Only in Your State mentions the Grumpy Old Men Festival, SeptOberfest, the Watermelon Fest, and Riverboat Days.
