Minnesota To Play Host To World Snow Sculpture Championship In January
Stillwater Minnesota will soon be the home of an International group of sculptures from around the world who will make magic before your very eyes with some incredible sculptures carved from snow. Dubbed as the "World's Coolest Block Party" this is definitely an event for all ages with many activities planned around the competition.
The event is weather-dependent of course and the dates right now are set for January 18-23 in Lowell Park on the shore of the St. Croix River, with teams from around the world set to compete.
The Greater Stillwater Chamber of Commerce teased the event on their Facebook page earlier this month.
For spectators, they will be able to watch 12 different snow sculpting teams construct their creations during the three-day competition, which begins on January 19. The winner will receive prize money and hold the title of world champion. Plus spectators will get the chance to vote for their favorite sculpture and the team with the most votes will be awarded the people's choice award.
The complete competition is just three of the days, but there will be five days of activities in the city of Stillwater for this first-time event, including snowmaking, social events, family-friendly activities, ceremonies, and more.
The city of Stillwater has teamed up with The International Association of Snow and Ice Sculpture based which is based in Finland. Its mission is to promote activities and develop the culture around snow and ice sculpting making this a truly national affair.
The city of Stillwater hopes to get more teams in the future, but for now, this is a great starting point to see some beautiful sculptures that you would not normally ever have a chance to see in person. Coordinators of the event encourage people to check their website for any updates or news.
